home / surroundings

Pheasants' Hill is located in the peaceful County Down countryside, with patchwork fields, tangled hedgerows, wild flowers, and narrow roads snaking between stone-walled fields. This is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) lapped by the tranquil waters of Strangford Lough one of the richest and most diverse areas of marine life in Europe.

Our farm borders the National Nature Reserve of the Quoile Pondage, a wetland wildlife reserve rich in birds, wildflowers, butterflies, and a popular fishing spot. You can walk the Ulster Way, climb Slieve Donard in the Mourne Mountains, pony trek through forests or swim at Blue Flag beaches. Fishing, sailing and golfing are all within easy reach (one of the world's top golf courses Royal County Down Golf Club is only 30 minutes drive away). You can even take part in traditional Irish games.

There are numerous historical sites to visit all over County Down. St. Patrick's Grave and the St. Patrick visitor centre are located in Downpatrick 3 miles away. The National Trust houses of Castle Ward, Mount Stewart and Rowallane Garden are only half an hour drive away.

Your stay at Pheasants' Hill can be as energetic or relaxing as you want. Find out more from the Northern Ireland Tourist Board, the Saint Patrick Centre and the Kingdoms of Down and the Traditional Irish Field Sports web sites.
